Teeth Grinding
What is Bruxism - Teeth grinding? Bruxism is the medical term for grinding, gnashing or clenching your teeth. This condition affects about 20% of people, both children and adults. Some people with bruxism unconsciously clench their teeth together during the day, often when they feel anxious or tense. Most people grind or gnash their teeth during sleep, usually in the early part of the night. This is called sleep bruxism.
In most cases, bruxism is mild and may not even require treatment. However, it can present in various forms:
Headache
Muscle pain
TMJ dysfunction
Audible teeth grinding
Dental damage
Unfortunately, people with sleep bruxism usually aren’t aware of the habit, so they aren’t diagnosed with the condition until complications occur. For this reason it is important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism and to seek regular dental care.
Some signs that you may have Bruxism
Teeth grinding or clenching
Teeth that are worn down, flattened or chipped
Worn tooth enamel, exposing the inside of your tooth
Increased tooth sensitivity
Jaw pain or tightness in your jaw muscles
Earache – because of violent jaw muscle contractions not associated with ear problems
Dull morning headache
Chronic facial pain
Chewed tissue on the inside of your cheek
How to treat bruxism? There are several options for the treatment of bruxism which can include medication, teeth braces and TMJ exercises. JMP Aesthetics can provide a treatment that may last up to 6 months. This involves using injections of a muscle relaxing solution which is the same solution that has been used for over 15 years to treat facial wrinkles and other medical conditions.
What is involved in treatment? JMP Aesthetics offer full consultation and assessment prior to any treatment to confirm suitability. A small amount of solution is injected into the selected facial muscles using a very fine needle. The procedure only takes about 10 minutes and the discomfort is minimal and brief. After the injection, it takes about 7 -10 days to notice the effect and 14 days for the full effect.
The solution has been used for cosmetic purposes for over 15 years and for medical purposes for over 25 years without any reports of long-term side effects. In addition to its cosmetic use, it has been used to treat cerebral palsy in children and movement disorders in adults. Side effects are very rare.

What is Trigger Point Injections? Trigger point injection (TPI) are used to treat intense pain in the muscles containing trigger points usually in the Trapezius muscle. Trigger points are tight bands or knots that are formed when the muscle fails to relax after the contraction. A trigger point may also cause referred pain (pain in another part of the body) by irritating the adjacent nerves.
What is involved in treatment? After initial consultation, assessment and confirmation of suitability, the procedure may take a few minutes. The injection used will make the muscle fibres more relaxed. It may cause mild pain for a short time and bruising. After the injections it may take up to 14 days to feel the full effect and may last up to 6 months depending on your body and underlying health issues.

Dermal Fillers
What is Dermal Filling and Lifting? Dermal Fillers are products that are injected into the skin to fill in defects such as creases, lines, wrinkles and scars or to rejuvenate the skin and replace volume. Injected directly into the dermis (the deeper layer of skin), Dermal Fillers fill in and elevate the skin’s surface producing a smoother, more youthful and relaxed appearance.
What is involved in the treatment? Dermal Fillers are injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. Local anaesthetic cream or dental blocks may be administered for increased comfort.
What do dermal fillers do? Once injected, the gel plumps and lifts the skin gently to replace collagen that has been lost by the natural aging process. Semi-permanent fillers work by creating an internal framework (or scaffolding) on which new collagen and elastin can attach creating the structure, tone and firmness for a more youthful appearance. Movement and sensation are not affected – your lips and skin will look and feel soft and natural.
Is the treatment safe? Although there are a variety of dermal filling products our specially trained JMP Aesthetics cosmetic practitioner only uses TGA approved fillers. Dermal Fillers are biodegradable and most are based on substances naturally occurring within the human body. As they are found naturally in human cells, dermal fillers are well tolerated and there is no need for allergy testing. Although the dermal fillers have been used for many years they should not be used in pregnancy, lactating mothers and other medical conditions. It is very important to tell your cosmetic practitioner if you have health problems or on any medication prior to treatment.
What areas of the face may be treated with Dermal Fillers? The main areas treated with dermal fillers are; around the mouth, cheeks, eyes and brow. Dermal Fillers may also be used on lips to redefine, enlarge or make fuller.
How long do the results last? Dermal Fillers usually lasts between 6 to 9 months, depending on skin type, lifestyle and skin maintenance. Some longer acting Dermal Fillers can last between 9 to 18 months.
Are there any side effects to this treatment? Side-effects of Dermal Filling may include some swelling, redness and occasional bruising. This will disappear within a couple of days although occasional severe bruising can last up to 10-14 days. Although most people resume their daily routine immediately after treatment some more severe side-effects, such as severe bruising and infection, can prevent you from resuming your normal duties for 2-4 weeks.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections
What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections? Anti-Wrinkle injections are procedures where an active ingredient is injected into the treatment area to relax muscles that cause wrinkles. At JMP Aesthetics we use only TGA approved products.
What is involved in treatment? JMP Aesthetics offer full consultation and assessment prior to any treatment. A small amount of solution is injected into the selected facial muscles using a very fine needle. The procedure only takes about 10 minutes, and the discomfort is minimal and brief. After the injection, it takes about 5-7 days to notice the effect and 10 days for the full effect.
Is this treatment safe? The solution has been used for cosmetic purposes for over 15 years and for medical purposes for over 25 years. In addition to its cosmetic use, the solution has been used to treat cerebral palsy in children and movement disorders in adults. Although the anti-wrinkle injections have been used for many years they should not be used in pregnancy, lactating mothers and other medical conditions. It is very important to tell your cosmetic practitioner if you have health problems or on any medications prior to treatment.
Are side effects possible with anti-wrinkle injections? Although side effects do occasionally occur, all JMP Aesthetics cosmetic practitioners take particular care to minimise them. Minor side effects include bruising which may last 5-7 days, occasional redness or swelling which usually goes in a few hours. More significant side effects relate to dosage and positioning and that is why JMP Aesthetics cosmetic practitioners continue to undergo regular training and upgrading to fine tune their skills. These more significant side effects include uneven results, poor or failed results, puffiness around the eyes and even mouth or eye droop if the wrinkle injections placement is inappropriate. These more significant side effects usually improve in 2-4 weeks and can improve quicker with appropriate care.
How long do anti-wrinkle injections last? It lasts for approximately 3 months, depending on the individual. The result will usually wear off progressively after 2 months as expression lines gradually return to their original appearance. The lines will never be worse after treatment. For some clients, the more often you have the treatment the less frequently it is required as the effects may last longer with each application.
